Most adult Havapoos stand roughly 8 to 15 inches at the shoulder and weigh somewhere around 6 to 18 pounds. The biggest single clue is which Poodle was used: a Havanese crossed with a Toy Poodle usually stays at the small end, while a Miniature Poodle parent can produce a noticeably taller, heavier dog. There is no official standard for the Havapoo, so these are ranges built from the two parent breeds, not promises.
Why there is no single answer
The Havapoo is a cross between the Havanese and the Poodle. Because it is a mix rather than a recognized breed, no breed standard exists to say how tall or heavy it should be. Its size comes from its parents, and the Poodle side can mean two quite different sizes of dog.
That is why one Havapoo can look like a compact lap dog and its cousin from a different pairing can look closer to a small terrier. Neither is wrong. They just come from different Poodle lines.
Start with the parent breeds
These figures come from each breed’s official standard (for height) and from VCA Animal Hospitals (for typical weight). Height is measured at the withers, the top of the shoulder blades, not the top of the head.
| Parent breed | Height at shoulder | Typical adult weight |
|---|---|---|
| Havanese | 8.5 to 11.5 inches (the standard’s ideal is about 9 to 10.5 inches) | About 7 to 13 pounds |
| Toy Poodle | 10 inches or under | About 4 to 8 pounds |
| Miniature Poodle | Over 10 inches, up to 15 inches | About 12 to 18 pounds |
Notice the Havanese standard sets a height range but no weight. Poodle standards also define the three sizes by height only. Weight figures you see online are typical ranges, which is why different sources disagree by a pound or two. For more detail on each parent, see our Havanese size chart and Poodle size chart.
Havapoo size chart by Poodle parent
Here is what those parent numbers suggest for the cross. Treat these as approximate ranges, since every litter is a new mix of genes.
| Pairing | Likely adult height | Likely adult weight | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Havanese x Toy Poodle | About 8 to 11.5 inches | About 6 to 12 pounds | Usually a small lap-sized dog, close to a Havanese or a little lighter |
| Havanese x Miniature Poodle | About 9 to 15 inches | About 8 to 18 pounds | Wider spread; some look like a sturdy Havanese, others are leggier and longer-limbed |
The Toy pairing tends to give a more predictable result because the Havanese and the Toy Poodle overlap a lot in height. The Miniature pairing joins two breeds whose sizes only just meet at about 10 to 11 inches, so puppies in the same litter can grow up looking quite different.
A Havanese crossed with a Standard Poodle (over 15 inches at the shoulder) would be a much bigger dog and falls outside the small-breed range on this chart. If you are ever unsure which Poodle was used, ask before you commit.
Why we do not publish a weight-by-age table
You will find Havapoo growth charts online that list a precise weight for each month. We have not found one based on real measurements of Havapoo puppies, and we are not willing to make one up. A month-by-month chart for a mix would really be an average of two or three different breeds, and it would mislead families whose puppy is from a Toy line or a Miniature line.
What we can say: like most small dogs, a Havapoo does most of its growing in the first several months and is usually close to adult height by around its first birthday, with some filling out after that. The most useful guides to your own puppy’s adult size are the size of its parents and your veterinarian’s growth checks.
The coat can fool your eye
Havapoos often inherit a wavy or curly coat that can be thick and fluffy. A full coat can make a dog look an inch or two taller and a good deal heavier than it is. After a short summer trim, many owners are surprised by how small their dog really is underneath.
The reverse matters too. VCA Animal Hospitals notes that the Havanese’s dense coat can hide weight gain, so you should feel your dog’s ribs and waist with your hands rather than judging by sight. That advice applies just as well to a fluffy Havapoo. If you like the look of a curly coat, our curly-coat puppies page has more on how much grooming it takes.
Georgia heat and a thick coat
Metro Atlanta summers are hot and humid, and a heavy, curly coat holds warmth. Many local Havapoo owners keep a shorter puppy cut from late spring through early fall. It keeps the dog cooler, cuts down on mats, and gives you a clearer view of your dog’s real body shape. Walk early or late in the day, and bring water.
Is a Havapoo the right size for you?
- Apartments and small homes: either pairing fits well, though a Toy-line Havapoo is easier to carry and travel with.
- Homes with young children: a very small dog can be hurt if dropped or stepped on. A sturdier Miniature-line Havapoo may be a better fit, with supervision either way.
- Families who want a predictable size: ask about both parents’ adult heights and weights. If that is not possible, a purebred Havanese or Poodle gives a narrower range.

When to ask a veterinarian
Size varies a lot in a mix, so a small or large Havapoo is usually not a worry by itself. Talk to your veterinarian if your puppy stops gaining weight, loses weight, seems much smaller than its littermates over time, or if you cannot easily feel its ribs under the coat. Your vet can also tell you a healthy target weight for your individual dog, which is more useful than any chart.
Common questions
How big do Havapoos get when fully grown?
Most adults stand about 8 to 15 inches at the shoulder and weigh about 6 to 18 pounds. Toy Poodle crosses usually land at the low end of that range and Miniature Poodle crosses can reach the top of it.
Will a Havapoo get bigger than a Havanese?
It depends on the Poodle parent. A Toy Poodle cross is often the same size as a Havanese or slightly smaller. A Miniature Poodle cross can be taller and heavier than a typical Havanese.
When does a Havapoo stop growing?
Most reach close to adult height by about a year old, then may fill out a little more. Your veterinarian can track this at routine visits.
Is there an official Havapoo size?
No. The Havapoo is a mix, so no breed standard sets its height or weight. Any figure you see, including ours, is an estimate drawn from the parent breeds.
How can I guess my puppy’s adult size?
Ask for the adult height and weight of both parents and which Poodle size was used. That tells you more than any month-by-month chart for a mixed breed.
