Physical Characteristics

Size:

An adult Pomeranian weighs 3-7 pounds and is typically 6-7” tall.

Pomeranians are affectionately referred to as Poms or Pom Poms.

Fact:

Poms typically live for 12-16 years.

Fact:

Pomeranians were first recognized as a breed in 1888.

Fact:

Poms are active feisty pups who are known for their complete disregard of size…it’s not at all unusual for a Pom to think they can take on a much larger dog with their spirited barking!

Fact:

Pom Poms don’t need heavy exercise. Due to their small size, walks around the neighborhood are perfect for a Pomeranian.

Fact:

Pomeranians used to be much larger dogs, closer to 20-30 pounds! Queen Victoria loved these dogs and was instrumental in reducing their size down to the adorable lap dogs we know today.

Fact:

Pomeranians can be trained to use a pee pad instead of going outside for potty breaks.

Temperament & Grooming Needs

Pomeranians are known for having huge personalities! They are vivacious and inquisitive, always fascinated by activity in their neighborhood. Poms love to play and glory in being the center of attention. Pom Poms are alert and intelligent. They are easily trained and are excellent watchdogs, quick to alert their owners of activity near their home. A Pomeranian is eternally self-assured, confident that they are loved and adored by their family! Show your Pom love and you will have a loyal, delightful companion for life.

Poms have a thick coat, but grooming is fairly straightforward. Just brush your pup weekly and their fur will remain soft and luxurious. A Pomeranian’s coat is thick, but they are sensitive to the weather. Be sure to watch for overheating in hot weather and remember that they can easily become chilled in freezing weather.
