Our showroom is just off Hwy 316 in Lawrenceville, roughly 22 to 25 miles west of downtown Winder. In light traffic the drive usually takes 30 to 40 minutes, and it is mostly one road, so meeting the puppies in person, health-checked by our on-staff veterinarian and settled in our family’s home nursery before they reach the showroom, is an easy afternoon trip.
Getting here from Winder
From Winder you can reach us almost entirely on one highway. Head south out of downtown to Hwy 316, take it west through the Dacula area into Gwinnett, and leave at the Sugarloaf Parkway exit. From there, take Cruse Road and then Old Norcross Road to the showroom at 1848 Old Norcross Rd, Lawrenceville, GA 30044.
There are two common ways to get from downtown Winder to Hwy 316:
- Patrick Mill Road and Bill Rutledge Road run southwest out of town and join 316 west of the city. Routing tools usually choose this way from the courthouse area. It covers about 22 miles in total.
- Broad Street (GA-11) south takes you to 316 on a larger road. It works well if you already live on the south side of town or near GA-11.
With clear roads you’ll be here in a little over half an hour. During the morning commute, traffic heading west on 316 toward Gwinnett builds up, and in the late afternoon the eastbound side does the same on your way home. If you live near Fort Yargo or on the Statham side of Barrow County, add a few minutes.
The easy plan is to arrive soon after we open at noon, Monday through Saturday, and head home before the evening rush. On Sundays we’re open 2 to 6 PM.
Why Barrow County families come to see puppies in person
A half-hour drive is worth it when the alternative is choosing a puppy from a video. In person you can watch how each puppy plays, how it handles being picked up, and whether it is curious or shy around new people. Those details often decide which puppy fits your home.
Our puppies come from trusted local Georgia breeders. Each one lives in our family’s home nursery before joining the showroom and gets used to children, adults and other pets there. Every puppy also has a complete health check from our on-staff veterinarian and is up to date on shots. Seeing that in person is a big part of why buying locally matters.
If you want a dog that sheds less, start with our low-shedding breeds. No dog is truly hypoallergenic, but some shed far less than others. You can see what is in the showroom now on available puppies by breed.
Bringing a puppy home to Winder
Barrow County basics
Winder is the county seat of Barrow County, and Barrow County Animal Control enforces the county’s rules. Two points from the county are worth knowing early:
- No unattended tethering. In 2020 the Board of Commissioners banned leaving a dog tethered outside without a person present. For a small puppy, the simplest plan is supervised time in a fenced area or on a leash with you.
- Make sure your puppy can be identified. The county urges owners to keep a collar with an ID tag or rabies tag on their pets, or to have them microchipped, so a lost pet can be returned. Your veterinarian can advise on the rabies shot and on microchipping.
Leash and licensing rules can differ inside Winder city limits, so check with Barrow County Animal Control or the City of Winder about anything else that applies to your address.
Places to walk once your vet says it’s time
- Victor Lord Park (Second Street, Winder) is Barrow County’s large park off downtown. The county runs a dog park there, and when it opened it was divided into a side for dogs under 40 pounds and a side for bigger dogs, which suits small breeds well.
- Fort Yargo State Park (Fort Yargo Ave, Winder) covers more than 1,800 acres around a 260-acre lake and has miles of trails. Georgia State Parks allows pets on leashes no longer than six feet, with the owner present at all times. Pets are not allowed in park buildings or on swimming beaches. A ParkPass fee is required.
Please wait for your veterinarian’s OK on vaccinations before taking a young puppy to a dog park, a popular trail or anywhere lots of dogs visit. Our post on when puppies are ready to go home covers that early stage.
What to know before you visit
- Walk in or book ahead. Walk-ins are welcome any time we are open, and booking a visit is optional.
- We don’t deliver. We don’t bring puppies to Winder or meet anywhere off site, so every family comes to the showroom.
- Same day or a scheduled pickup. You can take your puppy home the day you visit or pick a later date with us. For the half-hour ride back up 316, bring a small carrier or crate and ask someone to sit in back with the puppy.
- A deposit holds your puppy. See how deposits, holds and pickup work.

Common questions
How long is the drive from Winder?
About 30 to 40 minutes in light traffic, roughly 22 to 25 miles, mostly on Hwy 316 west to the Sugarloaf Parkway exit. Allow more time during the weekday rush.
Will you meet us halfway or deliver to Barrow County?
No. We do not deliver or meet off site. You come to the Lawrenceville showroom and meet the puppy there.
Can I reserve a puppy now and pick it up later?
Yes. A deposit holds the puppy, and you can choose a later pickup date instead of taking it home that day.
Is there a dog park in Winder for small dogs?
Barrow County runs a dog park at Victor Lord Park, which opened with a separate area for dogs under 40 pounds. Wait until your veterinarian says your puppy’s vaccinations are far enough along before you go.
