From historic Roswell, our Lawrenceville showroom at 1848 Old Norcross Rd is about 24 miles to the east. In light traffic that’s usually 40 to 50 minutes, and the rush-hour drive is a lot longer. Plan to make an afternoon of it so you can take your time meeting the puppies and asking questions.
Getting here from Roswell
We’re on the far side of Gwinnett from you, so this is a real drive. These are the two routes most map apps will offer:
| Route | Main roads | Distance | Light traffic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holcomb Bridge route (usually best) | Holcomb Bridge Rd (GA-140) east, which becomes Jimmy Carter Blvd, then I-85 north, then GA-316 east to Sugarloaf Pkwy | About 24 miles | About 40 to 50 minutes |
| Perimeter route | GA-400 south, then I-285 east, I-85 north and GA-316 east to Sugarloaf Pkwy | About 29 miles | About 45 to 55 minutes |
From Canton Street and the historic district, go down Norcross Street to Holcomb Bridge Road. If you live in east Roswell near GA-400, you’re already on Holcomb Bridge. Once you’re on GA-316, take the Sugarloaf Parkway exit, then Cruse Road to Old Norcross Road. We’re only a few minutes off the highway.
Plan around the commute. Holcomb Bridge Road is busy most of the day near GA-400, and I-85 through Gwinnett can back up badly during morning and evening rush. A weekday visit works best if you leave Roswell late in the morning and head home before mid-afternoon. We open at noon. Saturdays from noon to 7 are another good option. Check live traffic before you go, because a crash on I-85 can change which route makes sense.
Is it worth the drive?
For a dog you’ll have for years, we think so. A trip this long should be worth it, so here is what you can expect once you’re here:
- Meet the puppies yourself. Sit on the floor and see which puppy comes over to you. Watch how it reacts to a noise or to your kids. A listing can’t show you that.
- A veterinarian has checked every puppy. Our on-staff vet gives each one a complete health check, and puppies are up to date on their shots. Bring your questions, and ask to see the records.
- They’re used to family life. Puppies start out in our family’s home nursery and are socialized with children, adults and other pets before they come to the showroom.
- From Georgia breeders. Our small purebred and designer-breed puppies come from trusted local Georgia breeders. You can read why vet-supervised buying matters.
Not sure where to start? If this is your first dog, read puppies for first-time owners. If you want a mellow companion, look at calm puppies and small dogs for seniors. If you live in a townhome or apartment, see our apartment-friendly breeds. The full lineup is on available puppies by breed.
Life with a new puppy in Roswell
Roswell is in Fulton County, and Fulton County Animal Services handles animal control for the city, including dog and cat licensing. The city’s own code enforcement guide says animals must be under control at all times, either behind a fence or on a leash. It also says dogs can’t run loose on city streets or on someone else’s property. Fulton County’s ordinance requires a license once a dog is older than four months. The license goes with a current rabies vaccination, and the tag needs to stay on your dog’s collar. Your vet will tell you when your puppy is due for its rabies shot.
Roswell has fenced dog parks for when your puppy is older:
- Off-Leash Dog Park at Leita Thompson Memorial Park, 1355 Woodstock Road, run by the City of Roswell.
- East Roswell Park, 9000 Fouts Road, a city park with a dog park among its amenities.
Don’t take your puppy to either one until your veterinarian says its vaccinations are far enough along. The same goes for busy trails or any place a lot of dogs visit. Those first weeks at home are better spent on house training and short, calm outings. Getting your home ready and the first night home are good things to read before pickup day.
Before you leave Roswell
- You can walk in any time during showroom hours: Monday to Saturday 12 to 7 PM and Sunday 2 to 6 PM. Booking a visit is optional.
- We don’t deliver and we don’t meet halfway. Every puppy goes home from the showroom.
- Your puppy can leave with you the same day. If you’d rather not make the drive twice, decide before you come whether you’re ready for that. If not, you can schedule a later pickup.
- We only hold a puppy with a deposit. Read how deposits, holds and pickup work before you come.
You might live closer to the Alpharetta side of Holcomb Bridge or Old Milton. If so, our Alpharetta page describes a route that skips the interstate.
Common questions
How far is the showroom from Roswell?
It’s about 24 miles from Roswell City Hall by way of Holcomb Bridge Road, I-85 and GA-316. That’s around 40 to 50 minutes in light traffic and more at rush hour.
Is I-85 or GA-400 the better way?
In normal traffic, the Holcomb Bridge Road route to I-85 is usually shorter. The GA-400 and I-285 route adds about five miles. Check live traffic before you leave, since an I-85 slowdown can flip that.
What’s the best time to drive over from Roswell?
On a weekday, late morning to early afternoon. We open at noon, and that window misses the worst of the commute. Saturday afternoons are also a good choice.
Will you meet us closer to Roswell?
No. We don’t deliver or meet off site. You’ll come to our Lawrenceville showroom to pick up your puppy, either the same day or on a date you schedule.
