Johns Creek is just across the Chattahoochee from Gwinnett. From Johns Creek City Hall, our showroom at 1848 Old Norcross Rd in Lawrenceville is about 12 miles away, roughly 20 to 30 minutes without traffic. It’s a short enough trip that you can come once to meet the puppies and come back on another day to bring one home.
Getting here from Johns Creek
Of all the north Fulton cities, Johns Creek is one of the closest to our showroom. You don’t need an interstate to get here. Two routes work well:
- Through Duluth on GA-120. Take Medlock Bridge Road (GA-141) to Abbotts Bridge Road (GA-120) and cross the river into Duluth. Then follow GA-120 through downtown Duluth as it turns into Duluth Highway, heading southeast to Sugarloaf Parkway. From there, take Cruse Road to Old Norcross Road. That’s about 12 miles.
- Sugarloaf Parkway most of the way. Cross on Abbotts Bridge Road, turn onto Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, then take Sugarloaf Parkway almost all the way to Lawrenceville. It’s slightly longer, about 12 to 13 miles, but it’s easy to follow.
In south Johns Creek near State Bridge Road, you can also go east on State Bridge across the river. It becomes Pleasant Hill Road, which leads into Duluth and Duluth Highway. If you live up near McGinnis Ferry Road, compare both routes in your map app before you go.
Watch the river crossings. Abbotts Bridge Road and State Bridge Road are main commuter roads across the Chattahoochee, and they slow down a lot at rush hour. The same is true for Peachtree Industrial and Sugarloaf Parkway. We open at noon on weekdays, and a midday visit is usually quick. A 5 o’clock drive can take a good bit longer.
Why come see the puppies in person
You’re close enough that you don’t need to choose a puppy from a photo. Stop in, meet a few, and go home to talk it over. You can make the decision on a second visit if you like. Here’s what you’ll find:
- Puppies you can hold. Watch them play, see how they react to your children, and get a sense of their energy level before you commit.
- A vet on staff. Every puppy gets a complete health check from our veterinarian and is up to date on its shots.
- Puppies that start out in a home. Every puppy lives in our family’s home nursery before moving to the showroom, and is socialized with kids, adults and other pets.
- Small breeds from Georgia breeders. We carry small purebred and designer-breed puppies from trusted local Georgia breeders.
Many households start with teddy bear puppies, the toy breeds or our family-friendly picks. You can see every breed we list on available puppies by breed.
Your puppy’s first months in Johns Creek
The rules. Johns Creek is in Fulton County. The county’s animal ordinance requires a license for dogs older than four months. To get the vaccination/license tag, you show a rabies vaccination certificate, and the tag stays on your dog’s collar. Off your own property, dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet. In Johns Creek parks, pets must be leashed except in designated areas, and owners have to clean up after them. Fulton County Animal Services can tell you how to register.
The dog park. The Newtown Dog Park is inside Newtown Park at 3150 Old Alabama Road. It has separate areas for small and large dogs. The posted rules don’t allow puppies younger than four months, and every dog must wear a collar with a valid license and be current on required vaccinations. It’s also closed for maintenance on Wednesday mornings.
Even after four months, check with your veterinarian before your puppy’s first dog park visit, and before you go anywhere else a lot of dogs gather. The vaccine series has to be far enough along first. Until then, play in your own yard and spend time with healthy, vaccinated dogs you know. Our guide to the first weeks home can help you plan.
What to know before you visit
- Walk in any time during showroom hours. You can book a visit, but you don’t need to. Hours are Monday to Saturday 12 to 7 PM and Sunday 2 to 6 PM.
- Take your puppy home the same day, or schedule a pickup for a later date.
- We don’t deliver or meet off site. Pickup is always at the showroom.
- A puppy can only be held with a deposit. Read how deposits, holds and pickup work.
If your part of Johns Creek feels closer to Gwinnett than to Alpharetta, our pages for neighboring Duluth and Suwanee describe the drive from just across the river. If the breed you want isn’t here right now, join the puppy waitlist.
Common questions
How close is the showroom to Johns Creek?
About 12 miles from Johns Creek City Hall. That’s usually 20 to 30 minutes in light traffic, by way of Abbotts Bridge Road and either Duluth Highway or Sugarloaf Parkway.
Which bridge should I take across the Chattahoochee?
From central and north Johns Creek, Abbotts Bridge Road (GA-120) is usually the most direct. From the State Bridge Road side of the city, State Bridge Road works too. Either way, avoid the evening rush if you can.
How old does my puppy need to be for Newtown Dog Park?
The park’s posted rules don’t allow puppies younger than four months. Even after that, wait until your veterinarian says your puppy’s vaccinations are complete enough for places where many dogs gather.
Can I visit first and pick up my puppy later?
Yes. Puppies can go home the same day or on a scheduled later pickup date. A puppy is only held with a deposit.
Do you deliver to Johns Creek?
No. We don’t deliver or meet off site. You’ll pick up your puppy at our Lawrenceville showroom.
