From the middle of Grayson, our Lawrenceville showroom is about 9 miles north on Grayson Hwy, a 15 to 25 minute drive when the roads are clear. You can see small-breed puppies raised in our family’s home nursery, talk through their vet checks with our team, and be home again well before dinner.
Getting here from Grayson
No interstate, no Hwy 316 merge. From Grayson City Hall and the city park on Grayson Pkwy:
- Follow Grayson Pkwy (GA-84) to Grayson Hwy (GA-20) and head north toward Lawrenceville.
- Turn onto Sugarloaf Pkwy.
- Turn onto Old Norcross Rd. The showroom is at 1848 Old Norcross Rd.
That is close to 9 miles, about a quarter of an hour with green lights. Count on 15 to 25 minutes in normal conditions.
Grayson Hwy carries a lot of commuter traffic, and both it and Sugarloaf Pkwy back up at the big intersections when schools let out and during the evening rush. We open at noon Monday through Saturday, and an early-afternoon weekday visit usually beats the worst of it. Saturday hours run until 7 PM, and Sunday is 2 to 6 PM.
A short drive makes a careful choice easier
Choosing a puppy goes better when nobody feels rushed. Being this close lets you do it in steps.
- Start with the breed, not the puppy. Look through our puppies by breed at home, and if you are new to dogs, read our notes on puppies for first-time owners. Then come see the two or three breeds you are drawn to.
- Bring your health questions. Our on-staff veterinarian gives every puppy a complete health check, and each one is up to date on shots. We are glad to explain what that covers for the puppy in front of you. For what comes after, our post on vet-supervised puppy buying in Georgia is a good read.
- See how a puppy handles people. Our puppies come from trusted local Georgia breeders and then live in our home nursery, where they meet children, adults and other pets. Watch how one responds to your family before deciding.
- Keep coming back for grooming. Small breeds need regular grooming, and we offer grooming services a short drive from Grayson.
Bringing a puppy home to Grayson
Free and low-cost rabies shots through the county
Grayson is in Gwinnett County, and Gwinnett requires every dog to have a current rabies vaccination. Something many new owners don’t know: the county often offers discounted or free rabies vaccinations at local events and festivals, and posts the dates on the Gwinnett Animal Shelter’s Facebook page. Your own veterinarian will tell you when your puppy is old enough and whether a county event makes sense for you.
Two other county rules are worth knowing now:
- Keep your dog on your property. Gwinnett tells owners to keep pets on their own property and under restraint or control, so plan on a fenced area or a leash every time your puppy is outside.
- Bites and scratches. A dog that bites or scratches a person must be confined for observation, with the owner paying boarding costs. Teaching gentle mouthing early, and supervising puppies with visiting kids, helps you avoid that whole situation.
More detail is in our article on Gwinnett County rules for new puppy owners.
Places to walk, once your vet says so
- Grayson City Park, at 475 Grayson Pkwy next to City Hall, has open play space, a playground and a pavilion. It is open 7 AM to 9 PM, and the city’s rule is simple: all pets stay on a leash.
- Tribble Mill Park, the large Gwinnett County park on Tribble Mill Pkwy between Grayson and Lawrenceville, has a fishing lake and a 3.4-mile paved trail. Dogs must be leashed, kept to the right on the trail, and kept away from the playground.
Please wait for your veterinarian’s OK on vaccinations before taking a young puppy to a dog park or anywhere lots of dogs gather. Early on, short leash practice in your own neighborhood is all a small puppy needs.
What to know before you visit
- Just come by. Walk-ins are welcome during showroom hours, and booking a visit is optional.
- Two ways to go home. Take your puppy home the same day, or schedule a later pickup date.
- Pickup is at the showroom only. We don’t deliver to Grayson or meet off site.
- Holds need a deposit. The details are in deposits, holds and pickup.
