Our showroom at 1848 Old Norcross Rd in Lawrenceville is about 23 miles northeast of the Decatur Square, a drive of roughly 30 to 45 minutes without traffic by Lawrenceville Highway, I-285 and I-85. Come by and you can meet small-breed puppies face to face, watch how each one handles being held and walked, and take your puppy home the same day if it is the right match.
Getting here from Decatur
The interstate route
From the Square, take Church Street north to Lawrenceville Highway (US-29) and follow it northeast to I-285. Go north on I-285 for a few miles, then take exit 33 to I-85 North. Stay on I-85 to exit 106, GA-316 East toward Lawrenceville, and get off at Sugarloaf Parkway. From there it is Sugarloaf Parkway to Cruse Road to Old Norcross Road.
The surface-road route
If the Perimeter is jammed, you can skip it. Take Church Street to the Stone Mountain Freeway (US-78) east, exit at Mountain Industrial Boulevard, and head north to Lawrenceville Highway (US-29). Follow US-29 northeast through Lilburn, then use Bethesda School Road and Old Norcross Road for the last stretch. It is slightly shorter but has more traffic lights.
| Route from the Decatur Square | Distance | Without traffic |
|---|---|---|
| US-29 to I-285 North, I-85 North, GA-316 East | About 23 miles | About 30–40 min |
| US-78 East, Mountain Industrial Blvd, US-29 through Lilburn | About 21 miles | About 35–45 min |
Rush hour changes the picture. The stretch of I-285 between Lawrenceville Highway and I-85, and the I-85 interchange itself, often slow to a crawl on weekday mornings and late afternoons, and the trip can stretch well past an hour. Since we open at noon on weekdays, leaving Decatur around 11:30 usually puts you between the two rush periods. Saturday afternoon is another easy window, and on Sunday we are open 2 to 6 PM.
Why come see the puppies in person
Choosing a puppy for a house with a front porch and a sidewalk out front is a little different from choosing one for a yard you never leave. You want a puppy that can learn to sit calmly while neighbors pass, and one whose size and energy match the walks you actually take. You judge that best by watching the puppy, not scrolling photos.
Here is what you will find when you visit:
- Small breeds, start to finish. We carry small purebred and designer-breed puppies from trusted local Georgia breeders, a size that is easy to carry up porch steps and manage on a leash.
- Raised around people first. Every puppy spends time in our family’s home nursery before coming to the showroom, where it gets used to children, adults and other pets.
- Checked by our veterinarian. Our on-staff veterinarian gives each puppy a complete health check, and puppies are up to date on shots.
- Walk in when it suits you. No appointment is needed. You can also book a visit if you would like a set time.
If a laid-back companion sounds right for your street, start with our calm puppies; for a first dog, see puppies for first-time owners.
Bringing a puppy home to Decatur
Decatur is its own city inside DeKalb County, so a new owner has both city and county rules to keep in mind.
City of Decatur basics
The Decatur Police Department handles animal control in the city. Its guidance asks owners to keep pets enclosed or on a leash at home, to keep them leashed whenever they are off your property, to pick up after your dog on walks, and to put the rabies tag on your dog’s collar. In practice: a collar with tags, a leash by the door, and bags in your pocket from the first walk.
DeKalb County registration
DeKalb County Animal Services says dogs, cats and ferrets must be registered, and that registered pets need a current rabies vaccination given by a licensed veterinarian. Registration is due within 60 days of the rabies shot and when you bring home a new pet that needs vaccinating. Your vet will tell you when your puppy is old enough for that rabies vaccination, so keep the certificate handy.
Decatur’s dog parks, when the time comes
The city has three fenced dog areas: the one in Glenlake Park on Church Street, the one at Oakhurst Park next to the Oakhurst Recreation Center on East Lake Drive, and the one in Adair Park, reached from Trinity Avenue. City rules say dogs must be licensed with a current tag, users must carry a leash at all times, and waste must be picked up right away.
Before any of that, wait for your veterinarian’s OK on vaccinations before taking a young puppy to a dog park or anywhere many dogs visit. Until then, short leashed strolls on your own block and time on the porch watching the world go by are good, gentle practice.
For the first days home, read your puppy’s first night, and before summer walks, keeping a small dog cool in Georgia heat.
What to know before you visit
- Walk-ins are welcome during showroom hours: Monday through Saturday 12–7 PM and Sunday 2–6 PM. Booking a visit is optional.
- Your puppy can go home with you the same day, or you can schedule a later pickup date.
- We do not deliver or meet off site, so you will come to the showroom.
- Puppies are held only with a deposit. Our guide to deposits, holds and pickup explains how it works.
Before you head out, check available puppies by breed. If the breed you have in mind is not here right now, join the puppy waitlist.
Common questions
How far is the showroom from downtown Decatur?
About 23 miles from the Decatur Square by US-29, I-285 and I-85. Plan on roughly 30 to 45 minutes without traffic, and longer at weekday rush hour.
Is there a way to avoid I-285?
Yes. You can take US-78 east to Mountain Industrial Boulevard, then Lawrenceville Highway (US-29) through Lilburn. It has more traffic lights but can be the steadier choice when the Perimeter is backed up.
When can my puppy go to the Glenlake or Oakhurst dog park?
Only after your veterinarian says vaccinations are far enough along. City rules also require dogs in the dog parks to be licensed with a current tag.
Do I need to register my puppy with DeKalb County?
DeKalb County requires pet registration, tied to a current rabies vaccination from a licensed veterinarian. Your vet will set the rabies timing; register once that shot is given.
Can you bring a puppy to Decatur?
No. We do not deliver or meet off site. Visit the showroom, and your puppy can go home that day or on a pickup date you schedule.
